Teach A Trade Secures WMCA Contract Extension

Continued Investment in Skills Across the West Midlands

Teach A Trade has successfully secured an extension to its existing contract with the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), reinforcing its role in delivering funded training across the West Midlands. This extension will support the continued delivery of high-impact programmes designed to upskill tradespeople and address growing demand within the low-carbon and building services sectors.

Based in Telford, Shropshire, Teach A Trade has already supported hundreds of learners through WMCA-funded initiatives, helping both individuals and employers access high-quality, industry-relevant training.

Two Key Training Packages for 2026

The contract extension will focus on two primary areas, both aligned with regional priorities around sustainability, compliance and workforce development.

The Green Spark Project

The Green Spark Project will continue to offer funded renewable training courses in the West Midlands, specifically aimed at experienced electricians looking to expand into low-carbon technologies. Training will include:

  • Solar PV installation and maintenance
  • Electric Vehicle (EV) charging systems
  • Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS)

These technologies are central to the UK’s transition to net zero, and demand for qualified installers continues to grow across Telford, Shropshire and the wider West Midlands. The Green Spark Project provides a clear pathway for electricians to diversify their skillset and access new opportunities within the renewables sector.

F-Gas and Electrical Compliance Training

Alongside renewables, the extension will also support funded provision in:

  • F-Gas Category 1 (2079-11)
  • Level 3 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (Amendment 4)

These courses are designed to meet increasing demand in areas such as air conditioning, refrigeration, and electrical compliance, ensuring engineers remain aligned with current regulations and industry standards.

For electricians and heating engineers, this represents a valuable opportunity to gain recognised qualifications with financial support, helping to remove barriers to upskilling.

Supporting Career Progression and Employer Needs

The WMCA contract extension highlights the continued importance of funded courses in the West Midlands, particularly as industries adapt to new technologies and regulatory changes. For learners, this means access to training that supports career progression, job security and higher earning potential.

For employers, it provides access to a growing pool of skilled professionals who are trained to current standards and capable of delivering work across multiple disciplines.

Strengthening Skills Provision in Telford and Beyond

Teach A Trade’s partnership with WMCA reinforces its position as a leading provider of training courses in Telford, Shropshire and the West Midlands, with a strong focus on accessibility, quality and real-world application.

By continuing to deliver funded programmes that align with industry demand, Teach A Trade is helping to build a skilled, future-ready workforce capable of supporting the region’s economic growth and sustainability targets.

Looking Ahead

With the contract extension now in place, Teach A Trade will continue to expand its delivery, supporting more learners across the region to access funded training in renewables, electrical compliance and F-Gas certification. As demand for these skills continues to grow, initiatives such as this will play a vital role in shaping the future of the industry.
