Background Of This Qualification 

This qualification, now updated to the 4th edition of the Code of Practice, targets electricians, electrical technicians and engineers experienced in and testing electrical installations.

Electric vehicles play a crucial role in helping the UK meet air quality legislation and climate change targets. For this reason, the UK government actively promotes the move to electric vehicles.

This Level 3 Award covers the installation of dedicated charging equipment for pure electric and plug-in hybrid electric cars and vans, including extended-range electric vehicles. It encompasses both AC and DC charging equipment for plug-in electric vehicles, meeting BS EN 61851 and “The Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installations”.

Course Outcomes 

1. Key requirements for installation of EV charging equipment (EVCE) are known.
2. Equipment and differences between charging modes, and Wireless Power Transfer types (WPT), are identified.
3. Design and installation of EVCE is prepared for and completed.
4. Inspection, testing, and handover of an EVCE installation is conducted.
