This Skills Bootcamp package is 8 days in total, delivered face to face incoporating theory and practical learning. To ensure flexibility Teach A Trade offer both full time and part time (evening and weekends) options for this course.
- EAL Level 3 Award in Electrical Installation Inspection, Testing, Certification and Reporting – 5 Days
- NIC EIC Domestic Ventilation
Full Time –
This option starts on a Monday and will from 9am – 4.30pm on weekdays.
Evenings and Weekends (part time) –
This option takes place on a Tuesday and Thursday evening 5.30pm – 9pm and Saturday 9am – 4pm.
NIC EIC Domestic Ventilation
New Building Regulations and Standards has forced air tight housing which has in turn driven a requirement for controlled ventilation systems. The course meets the minimum technical competency requirement for Installers looking to apply to join a Competent Person Scheme in England and Wales for Domestic Ventilation Systems. It is also relevant for installers working in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
EAL Level 3 Award in Electrical Installation, Inspection, Testing, Certification, and Reporting 5 Days plus a further 1 day Practical Assessment
The course typically includes both theoretical and practical components.
Key areas covered include:
- General requirements for initial verification and periodic testing.
- Health and safety protocols.
- Safe isolation procedures.
- Dead and live testing.
- Interpretation of test results.
- Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs).
NIC EIC Domestic Ventilation
Learners will gain an understanding of the following areas:
- Regulations/standards and background
- Key terminology
- Ventilation systems
- Selecting, sizing and positioning of components
- Implications of installing ventilation systems where combustion appliances exist
- Preparatory work required before installation
- Installation requirements
- Location of continuous systems
- Condensation
- Commissioning of natural ventilation systems
- Commissioning of continuous ventilation systems
- Inspect, test and commissioning (practical)
- Documentation
EAL Level 3 Award in Electrical Installation Inspection, Testing, Certification and Reporting
The course provides comprehensive training on:
- Safe isolation and testing procedures.
- Pre-energized and energized tests.
- Documentation and practical use of test equipment.
- Periodic inspection and condition reporting.
Entry Requirements
There are two sets of entry requirements, they are split into for the qualification requirements and funding requirements –
Qualification – This qualification is for practising electricians. To be eligible for registration on this qualification, learners must hold one of the following:
These qualifications are intended for electricians who hold relevant Level 3 electrotechnical qualifications and want to undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD), learn new skills, and enhance their understanding of periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations.
The periodic inspection and testing qualifications must NOT be taken by learners new to the industry who do not possess sufficient skills, knowledge, and experience to undertake inspection and testing safely and competently. These qualifications are also not suitable for learners with limited experience of working in the electrotechnical sector, or who do not already hold relevant Level 3 electrotechnical qualifications. Centres should conduct a thorough initial assessment of applicants to establish that their current skills, knowledge, and experience is sufficient prior to qualification enrolment. Age Restrictions
Funding –
In order to meet the funding requirements potential learners must live one of these postcodes – WV, DY, WS, B or CV. Teach A Trade are required to complete a thorough initial assessment to check suitability for the Skills Bootcamps. Pre Requisites
Funding Bands Information –
Working in partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority delivering Skills Bootcamps, the cost of the course will either be Fully Funded, 90% funded 70% funded or 50% funded, the funding bands are below –
- Unemployed, Employed or self-employed learner on a Low wage (£34,194 pa or below) = Fully Funded
- Independent – Employed/self-employed learner, non-low wage (£34,195 pa or above) = 50% Funded
- Employed Employed/self-employed learner – non-low wage (£34,195 pa or above) – SME – 90% Funded
- Employed/self-employed learner – non-low wage (£34,195 pa or above) – Large employer – 70% Funded
Where a learner is unemployed, the Skills Bootcamp will be fully funded.
Where the learner is Employed/Self-employed AND low wage the Skills Bootcamp will be fully funded.
Company size definitions –
- SME = A business that has fewer than 250 employees and or a turnover of up to £50 million
- Large Company = A business that has more than 250 employees and or turnover or £50 million

Outcome Evidence Requirement –
As part of the West Midlands Combined Authorities investment in your skills and career progression it is imperative that the funds are used to provide real world positive impact to ensure this Teach A Trade must collect learner outcomes, below will provide guidance on learner outcomes.
Learner Outcome Types, positive outcomes (according to learner type) must be achieved within 6-months of course completion (or by 30th September 2026, the outcomes time limit – whichever occurs first).
- Independent/unemployed Learner – evidence of a new job which must be continuous employment for at least 12-weeks or an apprenticeship.
- Self-employed Learner – The learner obtaining new contracts or new opportunities linked to the Skills Bootcamp.
- Co-funded Learner – evidence of a new role or additional responsibilities in an existing role – all outcomes must utilise the skills acquired via the Skills Bootcamp.

How will this course be assessed?
NIC EIC Domestic Ventilation
This qualification is assessed by a series of multiple choice question papers, PAWS books and a practical assessment.
EAL Level 3 Inspection and Testing
The qualification is assessed through:
- Open-book 120 minute online exam (allowing the use of IET Guidance Note 3).
- 2 Practical assessments to demonstrate competency in inspection and testing.
