Electrical Qualification Specification EAL Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)

Course Structure

The qualification is divided into:

  • Knowledge Units: Delivered through classroom study and workshop practical assessments.
  • Performance Units: Require occupational evidence from the workplace.

Course Overview

This qualification is a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) and is part of the apprenticeship
framework developed by Summit Skills. NVQs encourage an employee to value their contribution to
the workplace, and develop their skills and potential. It is recognised by the Joint Industry Board (JIB)
for grading to apply for an ECS Installation Electrician Gold Card. This qualification requires
occupational evidence.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. However, due to the assessment requirements, learners are typically expected to be working within the electrical industry.

  • Access to a real work setting to demonstrate practical competence.

This course is ideal for:

  • Individuals aspiring to become competent electricians.
  • Those pursuing a career in the electrotechnical or building services sector.
  • Mature candidates with prior experience or qualifications in electrical installation.

Pre Requisites

There are no formal pre requisite requirements for this qualification, however due to the assessment
requirements of the performance units, learners would typically be working within the electrical
industry. Learners must have the maturity and potential ability to meet the requirements of the
assessment criteria for each learning outcome of the qualification units. Learners must have the
minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme,

How will this course be assessed?

Assessment

  • Knowledge Units: Assessed through on-screen exams and internal practical assignments.
  • Performance Units: Assessed locally and require occupational evidence.
  • On-Site Assessments: One of our electrical assessor will visit you on site to
  • *Electrotechnical Occupational Competence Unit: Assessed by the AM2 at an NET Centre.

*The AM2 Assessment is not included in this course and must be carried out separately at an approved NET Centre.

The knowledge units have on-screen exams and internal (Centre marked) practical assignments. The
performance units are locally assessed and require occupational evidence. The Diploma also requires
the completion of Electrotechnical Occupational Competence Unit (AM2 end point assessment).
