ACS Reassessment Course in Telford — Renew Your Gas Safe Registration

Course Information

Course Information

Stay on the Gas Safe Register without the stress. Our NICEIC-aligned ACS Reassessment course at our Telford training centre lets working domestic gas engineers renew CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1 and HTR1 in just 2-4 days — with experienced assessors, modern workshop rigs, and group sizes small enough that nobody gets lost in the back. Engineers travel to us from across Shropshire and the West Midlands because we book quickly, assess fairly, and get you back on the tools fast.

Every domestic gas engineer on the Gas Safe Register has to revalidate their ACS qualifications every five years. Without a valid Certificate of Competence you cannot work legally on domestic gas appliances in the UK — which is why most engineers in Telford, Shropshire and the wider West Midlands book their reassessment at least four to six weeks before their certificates expire.

Course Structure

The ACS Reassessment course is designed for experienced, practising gas engineers who need to renew their existing ACS qualifications. Day one focuses on refreshing key theory and underpinning knowledge. This includes current gas safety legislation, BS 6891, BS 5440, manufacturer’s instructions, gas safety documentation and unsafe situations procedures. Candidates will also complete written and multiple-choice assessment preparation. The practical assessment days focus on demonstrating continued competence in a controlled workshop environment.

This includes tightness testing, combustion analysis, appliance commissioning checks, fault diagnosis, isolation procedures and working safely on live gas appliances and training rigs. All practical assessments are observed, assessed and signed off by an experienced ACS assessor. Because this is a reassessment route, the course is shorter and more focused than the ACS Initial Domestic Gas Safety course. It is intended for engineers who already hold ACS qualifications and are actively working within the gas industry.

2 - 4 days

Who Should Attend

This course is ideal for:

  • Experienced domestic gas engineers whose CCN1 is approaching its five-year renewal date.
  • Engineers whose CCN1 has expired within the last 12 months (if expired longer, the ACS Initial route is required instead).
  • Engineers based in Telford, Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, Birmingham, Coventry and the surrounding West Midlands looking for a local training centre with quick availability.
  • Employers booking multiple engineers — we can run group reassessments and arrange bespoke dates for housing providers, M&E contractors and large energy companies.

Our centre on Halesfield 23 is in the heart of Telford, five minutes from junction 4 of the M54 with free parking on the door. We’re also a popular choice for engineers crossing in from Mid Wales and Cheshire because the M54 connection is far less painful than fighting traffic into central Birmingham.

We can usually get you booked in within a fortnight, and if you’re juggling reassessment with the day job we run reassessment cohorts year-round.

FAQs

How often do I need to do my ACS reassessment?

Every five years. Your ACS certificates of competence are valid for five years from the date of award. To stay on the Gas Safe Register, you need to complete your reassessment before they expire. Most engineers book four to six weeks ahead of their expiry date so they never lapse.

What happens if my CCN1 has already expired?

If it expired less than 12 months ago, you can still take the reassessment route. If it’s been more than 12 months, you’ll need to do the ACS Initial Domestic Gas Safety course instead — a more in-depth five-day programme.

Which ACS modules are included at Teach A Trade?

The standard reassessment package covers CCN1 core domestic gas safety plus the three most common appliance modules: CENWAT (central heating boilers and water heaters), CKR1 (domestic cookers) and HTR1 (gas fires and wall heaters). MET1 (domestic gas meters) can be added on request. You only sit the modules you currently hold or want to renew.

How much does the ACS reassessment cost?

The full ACS reassessment with CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1 and HTR1 is £699 +VAT at our Telford training centre. Additional appliance modules can be added at a small extra cost — call 01952 987686 for a tailored quote.

How long does the ACS reassessment take?

The standard reassessment runs over 3.5 days, combining short theory refreshers, written assessments and practical assessments on real appliances in our workshop. The exact length can vary slightly depending on how many appliance modules you sit.

Where is your training centre and how easy is it to get to?

Our centre is on Halesfield 23 in Telford, Shropshire (TF7 4NY) — five minutes from junction 4 of the M54, with free parking on site. We regularly train gas engineers travelling in from across Shropshire and the West Midlands, including Wolverhampton, Dudley, Walsall, Birmingham, Coventry and Stoke.

What do I need to bring on the day?

Two passport-sized photographs, the original copies of your expiring or recently expired ACS certificates, photo ID, your National Insurance number, note-taking material (recording devices are not permitted), and a non-phone calculator (we can supply one if needed).
