Course Overview
The ACS Domestic Gas Safety Initial Assessment is designed for engineers that have completed a recognised domestic gas training programme and are ready to be assessed or a ‘Category 1’ gas engineer whose ACS certificates have been expired over 12 months aiming to register with Gas Safe. It focuses on gas safety regulations, installation, commissioning, and servicing of domestic gas appliances. Successful completion of the Core Domestic Gas Safety qualification is a prerequisite for further assessments on natural gas installations and appliances.
The course includes:
- Core Domestic Gas Safety (CCN1): Covers gas safety legislation, emergency actions, combustion, ventilation, pipework installation, tightness testing, and appliance safety checks.
- Domestic Gas Appliances Modules: Includes specific training for appliances like central heating boilers (CENWAT), gas cookers (CKR1), gas fires (HTR1), and more.

This course is suitable for:
- Category 1: Experienced practicing gas fitting operatives.
- Category 2: Applicants with relevant mechanical engineering qualifications or experience.
Applicants must meet specific prerequisites, including evidence of training and work experience.

- Written statements from registered businesses or training providers.
- For new entrants (Category 3), additional training and qualifications may be required.

How will this course be assessed?
Participants will undergo rigorous assessments to validate their knowledge and practical skill set:
- Theory Assessments: Written exams and multiple-choice format questions to test understanding of legislation, standards, and technical knowledge.
- Practical Assessments: Hands-on evaluations to assess skills in appliance installation, fault diagnosis, gas efficiency testing, and safety checks.
Additional Information –
On the day of training, you will also need to bring with you:
- 2x passport sized photographs
- Original copies of expired/expiring ACS qualifications
- Note taking material (recording devices not allowed)
- A calculator (not part of a smart phone application) which we can provide you with on the day.
