Delivered from Teach A Trade’s practical training centre in Telford, this combined route delivers hands-on FGas training alongside 18th Edition Amendment 4 Wiring Regulations knowledge, helping candidates build the core competencies required to work safely within modern renewable heating and refrigeration systems.

As demand continues to grow for heat pumps, air conditioning systems and low-carbon heating solutions, engineers increasingly need both refrigeration awareness and electrical regulation knowledge. This intensive combined bootcamp is designed for experienced industry professionals who are looking to upskill or expand into HVAC, refrigeration and renewable technologies.

This course is suitable for:

Candidates attending should already be confident working in a hands-on engineering environment, as the course combines both FGas refrigeration training and 18th Edition AD4 electrical regulations at a fast-paced, technical level.

This is not suitable for complete beginners due to the intensity and technical depth of the combined syllabus.

Funding Eligibility

This course may be eligible for funding support only for candidates who reside within a West Midlands Combined Authority postcode area (WV,B, CV, DY or WS postcodes).

Eligibility is subject to funding criteria and availability at the time of booking and require evidence of residency within the WMCA region.

Candidates outside of the West Midlands Combined Authority area may still attend the course but will not be eligible for funding support.

There are two types of entry requirements for this course: qualification requirements and funding eligibility requirements.


Qualification Requirements

This is an intensive technical bootcamp, and candidates are expected to already have a relevant industry background before attending.

This course is suitable for:

  • Qualified electricians working in installation or maintenance.
  • Domestic gas engineers.
  • Heating engineers with practical site experience.
  • Air conditioning or refrigeration engineers.
  • Engineers already working within HVAC or renewables.
  • Experienced plumbing and heating engineers progressing into heat pump work.

Candidates should already be confident working in a practical engineering environment, as the course combines both FGas refrigeration training and 18th Edition AD4 electrical regulations at a fast-paced technical level.

This is not suitable for complete beginners.


Funding Eligibility Requirements

Funding support (where available) is only applicable to learners who live within the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) region.

Eligible postcode areas include:

  • B (Birmingham)
  • CV (Coventry)
  • DY (Dudley)
  • WS (Walsall)
  • WV (Wolverhampton)

To qualify for funding support, learners must be able to provide proof of address within one of the above postcode areas.

Funding is subject to eligibility checks, availability, and programme funding rules at the time of enrolment.

Learners outside of these postcode areas may still enrol on the course but will not be eligible for funding support.

Funding Bands Information –

Working in partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority delivering Skills Bootcamps, the cost of the course will either be Fully Funded, 90% funded 70% funded or 50% funded, the funding bands are below – 

  • Unemployed, Employed or self-employed learner on a Low wage (£34,194 pa or below) = Fully Funded
  • Independent – Employed/self-employed learner, non-low wage (£34,195 pa or above) = 50% Funded
  • Employed Employed/self-employed learner – non-low wage (£34,195 pa or above) – SME – 90% Funded
  • Employed/self-employed learner – non-low wage (£34,195 pa or above) – Large employer – 70% Funded

Where a learner is unemployed, the Skills Bootcamp will be fully funded.
Where the learner is Employed/Self-employed AND low wage the Skills Bootcamp will be fully funded.

Company size definitions –

  • SME = A business that has fewer than 250 employees and or a turnover of up to £50 million
  • Large Company = A business that has more than 250 employees and or turnover or £50 million

Outcome Evidence Requirement –

As part of the West Midlands Combined Authorities investment in your skills and career progression it is imperative that the funds are used to provide real world positive impact to ensure this Teach A Trade must collect learner outcomes, below will provide guidance on learner outcomes.

Learner Outcome Types, positive outcomes (according to learner type) must be achieved within 6-months of course completion (or by 30th September 2026, the outcomes time limit – whichever occurs first).

  • Independent/unemployed Learner – evidence of a new job which must be continuous employment for at least 12-weeks or an apprenticeship.
  • Self-employed Learner – The learner obtaining new contracts or new opportunities linked to the Skills Bootcamp.
  • Co-funded Learner – evidence of a new role or additional responsibilities in an existing role – all outcomes must utilise the skills acquired via the Skills Bootcamp.
